In an article published in Nature, our international team of researchers presented a newly developed framework to address the challenges common to studies of the history of climate and society. By applying their framework, the team uncovers five pathways that helped pre-modern populations adapt to climate change.

A major review of the field of history of climate and society, this paper sets the standards for future interdisciplinary research on past reactions to climatic change. It also discusses several cases of how historical societies turned out resilient to climatic change, providing ideas for adaptation pathways for today.
